It’s no surprise that Chris Brown’s latest CD, Graffiti, didn’t sell as many units in its first week as his CDs are used to. According to a report in Billboard magazine regarding their Album Chart, Brown’s CD only managed to move 102,000 copies. This is a stark contrast to the 294,000 units that were sold in the first week of release for his last effort, Exclusive.
What should come as a surprise is that 102,000 people still bought his CD. I know that he’s lost about 64% of his fanbase, but considering it hasn’t even been a year since the scandal you’d think his numbers would have been worse. Graffiti sold enough copies to debut in the Top 10 at #7.
The highest debut on the chart is from the cast of Glee with Glee: The Music Volume 2, entering at #3 with 173,000 sold.
But staying on top of the chart is Youtube sensation Susan Boyle, whose CD I Dreamed a Dream keeps on selling. Boyle’s CD sold a whopping 582,000 copies this week, the third week of its release. I Dreamed a Dream is also just the eighth album to sell at least 500,000 copies in each of its first three weeks of release, since SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. And, it’s the only album by a woman to do so.
Perhaps I’ve underestimated Boyle’s staying power. I though the CD would sell great in the first week and then taper off. I’m not complaining – I’m glad I was wrong. It’s great to see this woman succeed and maybe it contradicts the theory that nice guys finish last. Not on the Billboard chart at least.
The end of American Idol
Yesterday I reported on Simon Cowell’s hopes of bringing his X-Factor show to the US and it was assumed that he would be participating in the show alongside his work on Idol.
Unfortunately for fans of American Idol, it appears as if it’s a case of one or the other. The Times Of London is reporting today that Cowell, whose contract with Idol expires in May and who has been in talks with Fox since last summer, is preparing to announce the new arrangement with Fox early next year. If the show’s indisputable star should leave, the future of AI would be thrown into serious doubt.
Officials from Fox, Idol and Cowell’s own company yesterday refused comment.
The analysis from this morning’s New York Post concludes that we should enjoy the upcoming season of Idol because it will probably be the last.
Could this be true? Assume that it is and that Simon is in fact jumping ship in May when the season ends. Would anyone watch without Simon? I’d say maybe, but the numbers would drop like Chris Brown’s album sales. Think about it: Idol sans Paula and Simon. Doesn’t look promising, does it?

Lady GaGa’s hair upsetting her centre of gravity
It’s okay for Lady GaGa to deck herself out in outrageous wardrobes and hairpieces for the red carpet or appearances where she isn’t required to perform, but it’s obviously not working for her in concert. Especially here in Canada.
On Friday night GaGa’s tour made a stop in Vancouver and once again she slipped on stage and fell on her tailbone. I’m not sure if it’s her slippery shoes or her hideous Dracula-inspired lumpy hairdo, but something is not working here.
Like a trooper she takes the fall in stride and keeps singing, not missing a beat. If you were at her “concert” here last year and still want revenge, you’ll enjoy watching her fall.
Jessica Simpson denying having ridden the Tiger
If someone had told me a month ago that Tiger Woods would end up being the gift that keeps on giving to anyone reporting on Hollywood celebrities, I’d have laughed them off and moved on with my day. But here we are, and not an hour goes by without a new tidbit of information on the sexual escapades of the formerly boring golfer. This guy is getting more press over the last few weeks as he had in his entire career, which is actually quite sad.
Imagine you’re sitting on your shrink’s couch and she’s getting you to play a game of word association. She rattles off a list of words and people, and you have to come up with the first word that comes to mind. She says Tiger Woods and you say… probably not golf. Weird how things change in a matter of weeks, huh?
The latest rumour about Woods is that he once hooked up with fellow tabloid celebrity Jessica Simpson. Star magazine reported on the alleged liaison and has it featured as their cover story.
Simpson was quick to deny the allegations and took to her Twitter to let the world know it didn’t happen. She tweets:
Can’t believe that I’m on the cover of star magazine with Tiger Woods, what a JOKE! “The Shocking Inside Story” is (insert drumroll) A LIE!
To which Tiger tweeted back:
@JessicaSimpson Damn, girl. I thought I told you that we were going to leak the story so that it doesn’t look like every girl I hook up with is a waitress. Go with it and enjoy the payoff

HUGE Survivor spoilers
Tonight we’re down to the final six on Survivor, with the season almost coming to an end. The show’s finale is on Sunday when we find out whether Russell can make it to the jury and convince them that his sly ways are enough to overshadow the fact that he’s a multimillionaire.
Will he even make it past tonight? Will he win? I can’t tell you for sure who is going to win (though I have a pretty good idea) but I can tell you who will make the final three. Want to know? You’ll have to email me and I’ll be glad to share with you.
